Trainees in the Whitney Lab receive a diverse training experience that includes bacterial genetics, protein and nucleic acid biochemistry, and structural biology. Once per year, PhD students and postdocs who have obtained publication quality data will be offered the opportunity to present their work at an international conference of their choosing.

Prospective graduate students should contact John with an undergraduate transcript, a CV, and a statement of interest. Students must have previous experience in research. Students whose transcripts contain upper year science courses in disciplines such as chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, and microbiology will be given strong preference. Please also consult the Graduate Program in Biochemistry website for entrance requirements.

Undergraduate students are accepted into the lab on an ongoing basis. Students with strong grades in organic chemistry and biochemistry courses are encouraged to inquire about available research positions in the lab.
